Arranging Kora across my lap, she slowly lifts her head and I use my fingers to gently brush her hair from her face. Her cheeks are red and splotchy, her eyes still wet with unshed tears.
Her little lip quivers and my heart immediately breaks for the child. She reminds me so much of my little sister Rosana when our father passed.
“Will you leave us, too?” she asks softly.
My heart clenches, it squeezes to a point where I don’t think that it will ever feel normal again. Her big gray eyes look exactly like her father’s, but the pain radiating from them, they scream of fear of abandonment.
“Never,” Drago growls from in front of us.
I watch as he crouches down to his haunches, his hand extending to wrap around her little shoulder. She looks back at him, then over to me again, her eyes wide and questioning.
“Not if I can ever help it, Kora,” I whisper.
Drago growls deep in his throat, obviously not appreciative of my answer. I don’t care. I can’t make a promise to this beautiful child that I cannot keep. I don’t ever want to leave her, not if I can possibly help it, but this world is unpredictable and I will never lie to her, either.
She sighs and leans her head against my chest. My eyes lift to Drago. His expression is one that I cannot read. He frowns, shaking his head, then stands to his feet.
Without a word, he slowly walks out of the office, closing the door behind him. Only then do I close my eyes and lean my head against the back of the couch.
Eventually Kora falls asleep against me, her weight becoming heavier and heavier as the moments pass. I don’t mind the weight, even with the pain in my leg, I accept it all.
It’s in this moment that I realize I love her. She is so beautiful and innocent, so caring and full of acceptance and devotion to the people in her life.
I want to be a good role model for her. I want to be better for her. I want to earn her devotion.
DRAGON
Leaving my girls alone, I make my way over to the bar. My girls. Mine. They are that too, both of them. Holy fuck, Bella was right about Margot, the bitch thought that we were going to be something, and in a way that I never expected.
There’s a shot of tequila and a beer placed in front of me immediately upon my arrival. Thank fuck. I quickly down the booze, then reach for the beer and take a deep pull to chase the tequila.
“Lotta shit went down today,” Silver drawls.
I snort, shifting my gaze over to my friend, my brother. “Yeah,” I grunt.
“Fuck. She’s it, isn’t she? You love her,” he mutters.
Shrugging, I take another pull of my beer. “I don’t know, haven’t really known her long.”
“You know her long enough to put your brand on her, something you never even considered with Journee and she birthed your kid,” he snorts. “Knew Presley was the one about a minute after I met her.”
It’s my turn to snort, because he isn’t fucking lying about that either. He loves that bitch, loved her the second he saw her. Everyone knew it, even before he did. Same goes with goddamn Wolfe and even Mamba.
Fuck.
Maybe I do love her.
I know for certain, she is staying right here with me, in my house, at my side where she belongs. If that’s love, then fuck it, I love the bitch.
“She’s mine. That’s all I can admit,” I lie.
He shakes his head, his eyes finding mine and he smirks. “You’re so fucking gone for her. It’s kind of cute, in a completely psycho fucked up kind of way,” he chuckles.
“Now, we done with the Santoro shit? We good with all of that?” he asks, his tone changing from light and easy to serious and intent.
I lift my chin, taking another pull from my beer. “Far as I know, he’s cool with the agreement. I give up any rights that I have to the Ricci family, he forgives me for taking one of his most expensive girls. I got the better end of the deal as far as I can see.”
“The contract we got with him still valid?”
Shifting my gaze to his, I dip my chin in confirmation. He smirks. “We did get the better end of that shit, by far. Who the fuck gives a shit about some bullshit family you never even met in New York, or their fucked up legacy?”
“Exactly,” I agree.
“What about Kade?”
“Kade isn’t a problem,” I murmur. “He knows where he stands in all of this. As our supplier, he won’t get paid if he fucks us over. He came to be a middle man if he needed to be, nothing else. He’s the one sitting pretty right now,” I explain.
Silver pushes off the bar to stand up straight, his back stiff as he looks down at me. “Better fucking hope that shit is true. I’d hate for him to be too much like his fucked up brother and start a bunch of unnecessary bullshit.”
I shake my head once, my eyes lifting to his. “He won’t do shit. He isn’t Karma, he doesn’t have any love for him. Hell, he doesn’t even have hate for him, he has absolutely nothing.”
“That family is so fucked,” he announces before he turns and walks away from me.
I don’t agree with him, mainly because I understand about fucked up families. Hell, my own uncle tried to have my father killed. It’s the reason he left New York. I don’t know what it was about, or why, all I know is that’s what my dad told me, and since Santoro killed my uncle and my cousin, I assume they were as fucked up as Karma, probably worse.
Finishing my beer, I stand and stretch from my seat. Turning around, my eyes survey the bar. Della is sitting with Jaguar, his hand wrapped around the side of her throat.
Her eyes are looking everywhere but at him, as if she’s trying to find her escape route. I snort at the sight. That girl better give it up, he’s going to brand her and he is determined to keep her, whore or not.
“Dragon,” a female voice calls from behind me, slowly I turn to see Pinkie standing there, wearing nothing more than a pair of cut-off shorts and pasties to cover her nipples.
“Pink,” I grunt.
She looks back behind her, toward my office, then over to me. “Margot is not going to just go away. She thought she was in, takin’ care of Kora like she did, being at your house, practically livin’ there,” she warns.
“I know,” I nod.
“You embarrassed her and I’ve known her for years. She won’t have it.”
I shrug a shoulder, reaching out to touch the tip of her nose. At the end of the day, Pinkie is my friend. I’ve known her since she was a kid, known the house she came from, the life she had.
She doesn’t stay here because she necessarily wants to be a clubwhore, she stays here because she knows it’s safe. I offer her protection she’s never had before. She’s loyal to me out of nothing more than self-preservation.
“I’ll deal with it when it becomes an issue,” I say, keeping my voice cool.
Pinkie’s concerned, I get it. Margot will get over it, or she’ll try some bullshit tactic to exact revenge. I’ll be ready when she does. Not like she can fucking overpower me. Not like she’s going to pull a fast one over on the Savage Beasts. It’s just not fucking possible.
Pinkie eyes me, obviously not liking my answer much. Turning away from me, I watch her ass sway as she walks away. Shifting my gaze from her ass, I look up and notice that Bellarosa is standing at the mouth of the hall, her gaze on me and not looking very fucking pleased to have seen my eyes on Pinkie’s ass.
We stare at one another for a moment, then I watch as her eyes shift to the floor before she turns and makes her way back to my office. My breath hitches at the thought of her being unhappy with me, disappointed, or maybe hurt.
Fuck.
I am in love.
Deciding to stop those fucking feelings, immediately, I turn toward the bar and lift my fingers. The prospect appears and leaves me a bottle of tequila, obviously sensing my mood. Turning to my right, I see Mamba and Wolfe, both watching. Mamba looks amused, Wolfe looks—fuck, I don’t know how he looks.
“Take the girls home,” I bark.
/>
Mamba chuckles and quickly peels off while Wolfe continues to just stare at me, glaring more than anything. I ignore him. Eventually, I hear him sigh and he turns and walks away from me. I stay with my ass on the stool and the bottle of tequila in my fucking hand.
Chapter Twenty
BELLAROSA
A man that I recognize, but don’t remember his name walks into the office a few moments later. His eyes cut to me and then his face turns into an easy smile. Kora recognizes him as she stands and throws herself at his legs, tipping her head back to flash him a wide, bright, smile.
I wish that I could shift my mood, my happiness, as easily as she can. The man clears his throat after patting her on the back a few times. His eyes lift to mine and his easy smile stays planted, but something about it instantly morphs into what I can only guess is pity.
“Takin’ you girls home,” he murmurs.
“Drago?” I ask.
He shakes his head with one sharp move. My heart squeezes. That can only mean one thing. He is going to stay here, with that barely dressed woman, a whore. He’s gotten what he wanted from me. He owns me now, there is no use in seducing me with promises and sweet touches.
I. Am. His.
Without causing any issue, I gather myself and Kora. Together we follow the man who re-introduces himself to me as Mamba, out of the office. Kora runs away from me, heading toward the bar as soon as her father is visible. I, on the other hand, refuse to look in his direction.
Maybe I’m being immature, maybe I don’t care. I’m not so sure any of his words were anything other than the Devil’s talk coming from honeyed lips. He didn’t mean them, I’m certain. He wanted someone to own, someone that he could control, someone that would be there for his daughter that couldn’t leave.
I ride in the passenger seat in silence, staring out the window as Mamba drives toward Drago’s house. As soon as the house is in view, he clears his throat as if he’s going to say something. I wish he were already parked so I wouldn’t have to listen to whatever it is that he’s about to say to me.
“You called him Drago,” he states.
Nodding, I sigh. “It’s his name.”
He clears his throat as he guides the car into the driveway and shifts it into park before killing the engine. “I’ve never heard it before or heard anybody call him that,” he points out.
Mamba is looking at me as if this is supposed to be a poignant thing. As if it’s a big deal that I’ve called him by his given name, one that is only one letter off from the name that everybody else calls him. Kora scrambles out of the backseat and I move to do the same but Mamba’s hand wraps around my wrist to halt me.
“It is his name. Nobody calls him that though. Not Journee, not Margot, not Pinkie, not Della,” he inhales. “Not even Mountain who is his vice president, nobody, babe. Just you.”
I bite the corner of my lip, my teeth sinking into the skin so hard that I taste blood. My eyes close, feeling the weight of what he’s saying and trying to understand it all. Then I shift my legs and I feel the pain slice through me at the branding that is still very raw on my thigh.
Ignoring him, I shake free from his grasp and I take myself into the house. Kora already has the front door open and I’m thankful since I don’t have a set of keys. Mamba doesn’t follow us inside, instead he waits until I close the front door behind me and then I hear his car roar off down the street.
Kora is standing in the kitchen, her eyes meet mine and she gives me a sad smile. “Margot and my mama don’t want me,” she whispers.
She’s on the verge of another little girl breakdown, and I feel her, boy, do I feel her. Shaking my head, I sink down to her level. Wrapping my hands around her small shoulders, I give her a gentle shake forcing her eyes to meet mine.
“I don’t know much about your mother, but it sounds like she is maybe a bit sick?” I guess.
She nods, tears welling in her eyes. “Daddy says she ain’t right,” she whispers.
Nodding, I slide one of my hands to her ponytail that I fixed up for her, wrapping it around my palm I give her a small tug. “That has nothing to do with you. If she was right, I bet she would fight tooth and nail for you, honey,” I whisper. “I know for certain Margot’s anger has absolutely nothing to do with you, though.”
“She likes my daddy, a lot. She wanted to be his girlfriend, she told me so and told all of her friends, all the time. She likes him even more than I like Buster.” Immediately, she lifts her hand and covers her mouth as her eyes widen from her confession.
“Buster?” I ask, my lips twitching into a smile.
“Silver has a son. We go to school together, Buster,” she explains as her little cheeks turn bright red.
My lips turn from a small smile to a wide one. “Is he cute? He must be. I saw this Silver, he is very handsome,” I admit.
Her cheeks’ redness deepens and she nods. “I’m going to marry him one day. We already decided,” she admits.
“I can’t wait,” I gush. “Will you wear white?” I ask.
Her seemingly sad mood is immediately lifted and we spend the rest of the evening talking about her future wedding to the oh so swoony nine-year-old named Buster. Then, before she goes to bed, I attempt to make her dinner and help her shower and tuck her in.
I don’t know what I’m doing, but by the time nine o’clock in the evening comes around, I let out a heavy sigh and begin to pick up around the house.
I don’t know anything about cooking or children, at all, but I figure I can learn along the way and thankfully Kora is old enough and smart enough, that she doesn’t mind guiding me along the way.
* * *
I feel my body being rolled to my stomach. I’d fallen asleep around ten-thirty, maybe eleven. After I cleaned the living room and kitchen up from the evening with Kora, I shuffled to Drago’s bedroom and showered. Without any real pajamas, I pulled one of his plain black t-shirts over my head and crawled into bed.
Unfortunately, even though my body was exhausted, my brain was anything but. I couldn’t turn my mind off. So, I turned the television on. There was some sitcom on, it was about friends who lived across the hall from one another. It was funny and thankfully took my mind mostly off of everything that had happened that day.
Eventually my eyelids became so heavy that I couldn’t lift them and I fell asleep.
Now, I am on my stomach and I feel two strong hands slide up the inside of my thighs, spreading them as they move.
My body is no stranger to a man’s touch in the middle of the night, many times clients stayed, or I stayed with them and they would need me after we’d fallen asleep. Fingers drift through my center and my breath hitches at the same time I lift my hips.
Then I feel breath at the shell of my ear, it reaches my nose and it smells like tequila. My eyes pop open and I freeze. I hear him chuckle, but his fingers don’t stop gliding through my slit, then swirl my clit before starting all over again.
“Figured you didn’t know it was me.” His voice is a low murmur and it sounds full of amusement.
“Drago,” I whisper.
He hums, his fingers spreading my pussy just enough for his cock to penetrate, just to the head. “Rear back, I want you to fuck me, Fragolina,” he purrs.
My breathing comes out in a whoosh and without thinking, I do exactly as he instructs. I don’t do it because my body is so honed in on following instructions from men, I can’t not follow them. I do it because it’s what I want.
Rearing back, I let out a soft moan as I take all of him inside of me. He stretches me, fills me, and we both sigh at the sensation. “Fuck,” he hisses as his hands span my waist.
My chest and cheek are still on the bed, I hum as my response. Reaching between my legs, I touch my clit as I begin to fuck him. His hands don’t leave my hips, but he doesn’t move to guide me to him, instead he just holds on while I control the moment.
DRAGON
Looking down as Bellarosa fucks me, I don’t think I’ve
seen a prettier sight than the way that she takes me in her body, her wetness coating my cock with each stroke. I feel her entire body shudder as she climbs closer toward her release.
Closing my eyes, I let out a sigh, gritting my teeth and holding myself back from thrusting into her body and taking over completely. Slowly, I open my eyes, my gaze shifting down to her thigh, focusing on the brand that is still angry and red on the back of her leg.
I hear her soft moan, then her cunt squeezes around me and she comes. Her body stiffens and only then do I begin to take control. I fuck her, hard and fast, until I empty inside of her.
Bella’s body completely collapses on the bed, her legs unable to hold her up any longer. With a grunt, I slip from her and roll onto my back.
Ignoring her gaze, one that is focused on me, I reach for the joint that I know is in my nightstand drawer. I don’t partake in most of the shit we sell, but this isn’t like smoking meth. This is to calm my ass down from the fucking crazy as shit day that I had.
Lighting up, I take a long drag before Bella lifts her hand and slips the paper from my fingers. My eyes widen as I turn my head, watching her take a drag for herself. I cough, shaking my head as I continue to watch her close her eyes as if she’s truly enjoying herself. Then, she passes it back to me.
“Bella?” I ask.
She sits up a bit, resting her back on the headboard as she pulls the top sheet over her breasts, tucking it beneath her arms.
“What?” she asks, arching a brow.
“Fuck,” I hiss.
She shrugs. “Takes the edge off.”
I watch her, taking another drag before I pass it back to her. That’s how we sit, in silence, for at least another hour. Then when the smoke is gone, her eyes are glassy, and her body finally seemingly calm and serene, I gently gather her in my arms and arrange her against my side.
